Research Center for Media and Culture

Japanese website :  Research Center for Media and Culture

A new form of media studies integrating humanities and sciences

Let's put the global development of modern culture up on the chopping board and use "media" as the tool with which to dissect it. That was the concept behind the launch of the Research Center for Media and Culture in April 2008 as the second research center of the Graduate School of Intercultural Studies. Although there are many research institutes that include the words "media" or "culture" in their names, we take pride in the uniqueness of this center in that it conducts research that integrates the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. In addition, in order to promote that type of interdisciplinary and integrated research, the center has set up two sections--"Pluralistic Communication" and "Public Culture"--under the one research division in an effort to effectively link the two.
