Art, Culture and Society

Comprised of classes that treat issues related to artistic and cultural content and environments, the Art, Culture and Society Group researches the involvement between art works in various genres, including formative arts (painting), calligraphy, literature, and performing arts (music, opera, and theater) on the one hand, and society on the other. The artistic and cultural content classes investigate works to examine the social consciousness and world view reflected in them. The artistic and cultural environment classes contemplate issues such as freedom of artistic creation, assurance of the right to ready access to art, and the actual operation of cultural facilities, while drawing international comparisons. The program also considers approaches to grand designs for cultural policy and art management for linking art and society as the actual application of such policy.
