Linguistics and Communication Studies
Language is not a mere means of communicating ideas and messages; it is an element of culture in its own right, closely bound up with human cognition, thought, and custom. Resting on comparative and contrastive studies of linguistic structure and usage, the Linguistics and Communication Studies Group engages in exploration of effective techniques for teaching Japanese to foreigners, linguistic and cultural analyses plus methodology development related to mastery of a second language and translation/interpretation, and diverse rhetorical comparative analyses. It actively searches for solutions to various problems in intercultural communication, which is becoming indispensable amid the ongoing globalization. Its mission is to breed human resources with skills for practical application or education and research, acquired through various classes and exercises, related to linguistics and communication on all levels, from the basic to the applied.
