Profile


Masanori YOSHIOKA is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology in the Department of Intercultural Studies, Kobe University. He did his graduate work in social anthropology at Tokyo Metropolitan University from which he obtained  his Ph.D.( Doctor in Social Anthropology). He is an author of A Man Kills Pigs to Raise Himself in Rank (in Japanese: Fukyosha, 2018), Gemeinschaft City ( in Japanese: Fukyosha, 2016), The Story of Raga - David Tevimule's Ethnography on His Own Society, North Raga of Vanuatu (JSOS Monograph Series Vol.1, 2013) , Against Postcolonial -Anthropology ( in Japanese: Fukyosha, 2005) and Graded System in Melanesia ( in Japanese: Fukyosha, 1998) which was awarded the 15th Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Prize in 1999, a general editor of Oceanic Studies( in Japanese, Kyoto University Press, 2009) and a coeditor of 58 Chapters to understand the South Pacific (in Japanese: Akashi Shoten 2010), Anthropologycal Studies on the Modern History of Oceania( in Japanese: Bulletin of the National Museum of Ethnology Special Issue no.21, 2000), Oceania 3 : Struggling with Modernity( in Japanese, University of Tokyo Press, 1993), and The Possibility of Social Anthropology: Societies in the History( in Japanese, Kobundo, 1988).
