ラガ語語彙集

 以下に提示する「ラガ語語彙集」は、北部ラガのロルトン村在住のリチャード・レオナ氏との共同執筆論文「A VOCABURARY OF THE NORTH RAGA LANGUAGE」1992を写したものです。レオナ氏は北部ラガ生まれで、元ラブルタマータ村小学校の校長です。北部ラガの言語調査を行った言語学者デヴィッド・ウォルシュ氏の主たるインフォーマントとして活躍した経歴を持ち、ウォルシュ氏との共同論文が二、三あります。
 レオナ氏は、私のヴァヌアツでの父にあたるサイラス氏の兄弟(実の兄弟ではない)であり、私にとっても父にあたる人物です。デヴィッド・テフィムレ老がラガ語で書いた「ラガ物語」を訳していたとき、村人から「古い言いまわしなどはレオナ氏が詳しい」というアドヴァイスをもらい、氏の協力で、「ラガ物語」の単語一つ一つを吟味しながら翻訳する作業を行いました。この「語彙集」は、その時の共同作業をベースとして出来あがったものです。草稿をレオナ氏に送ってチェックしてもらうという時間的余裕がなかったため、最終的には、いくつかのミスがあるかもしれません。スペルミス、誤訳などは、すべて私一人の責任となります。

 The following letters and signs are used in this paper:

   1.→  means“see".
   2.-n  means that “n”is a possesive suffix.
   3.  shows that the word is a cardinal pronoun. Cardinal pronouns are usually placed in nominative positon.
   4.** shows that the word is a verbal pronoun. Verbal pronouns which semantically
       indicate the actor appear as nominative and they are combined with tense
       particles to make single units.
