 「国際文化学研究推進センター」は、2014年に、「異文化研究交流センター」（2006年設立）と「メディア文化研究センター」（2008年設立）が統合され、設立されました。

The “Research Center for Promoting Intercultural Studies： Promis” was founded in 2014 and represents the merging of the “Intercultural Research Center: IReC” (founded in 2006) and the “Center for Media and Cultural Studies: CMEC” (founded in 2008).

異文化研究交流センターは、異文化間の文化接触・交流・変容などを学際的に研究することを目的とし、メディア文化研究センターは、メディア環境の著しい展開を踏まえつつ、急速にグローバル化しつつある現代文化の動態を多角的に研究することを目的とし、それぞれ設立されたものでした。

The IReC was established with the intent of performing interdisciplinary research on intercultural contact, exchange, and transformation. The CMEC aimed at performing multilateral research on the dynamics of contemporary culture while taking into account the significant expansion of the media and rapid globalization.

両センターとも時代の要請に対応した研究者連携や地域連携を展開するとともに、年度毎に計画される複数のプロジェクト研究を中心として、頻繁な研究会、講演会、シンポジウム等を実施し、講座の枠を超えた共同研究の中心的役割を果たしてきました。そしてこれらの活動により、広く市民からも認知され、各界から一定の評価も受けてきました。

In response to the needs of the times, both centers increased collaboration among scholars and regional cooperation. They also implemented frequent research groups, lectures, and conferences focused on a number of research projects that were planned each year and took a central role in joint research that extended beyond the framework of lectures. Through these activities, these centers have been recognized by many citizens and have achieved a measure of legitimacy from various circles.

この２つのセンターを統合した「国際文化学研究推進センター」設立の目的は、両センターのこれまでの成果と経験を踏まえつつ、時代の動向・要請により一層迅速かつ機動的に対応することにあります。両センターの統合により、財政的資源と人的資源を一元化し、それらをより一層戦略的に活用することができるようになりました。組織としての効率性についても、二つのセンターに分かれていた時よりも一層高まることが期待されます。

The objective of merging these two centers and establishing the PROMIS is basically to respond to the trends and needs of the times quickly and flexibly, while at the same time taking into account the achievements and experiences of both centers so far. Through the merging of these centers, we have centralized both financial and human resources, and are therefore able to utilize them more strategically. We can expect greater organizational efficiency than when the two centers were independent.  

研究開発部門、連携事業部門、国際交流部門、移民研究部門、重点研究部門の５つの部門から成ります。5部門の総力を挙げて、とりわけ国の内外の研究者と連携した様々な研究プロジェクトの開発と促進、ならびに若手研究員の研究支援に力を入れていくつもりでいます。そのことにより、時代の求めるより高いレベルのグローバル提携を実現できると確信しています。２つのセンターを統合し、組織と資源を一元化した「国際文化学研究推進センター」が、皆様のご期待に十分応えうるセンターとなるよう、研究科一丸となって努力して参りたいと考えております。

The center consists of the following five divisions: the Research and Development Division, the Inter-Organizational Networking Division, the International Exchange Division, Migration Research division and the Priority Research Division. The collective effort of the five divisions is to develop and promote various research projects based on the collaboration of domestic and foreign researchers in Japan as well as to contribute in supporting the studies of young scholars and researchers. We are confident that through these efforts, we can achieve a high level of global management demanded by the times. The Research Center for Promoting Intercultural Studies, in which the two centers were integrated and the organization and resources of each was centralized, will continue to work together with all internal departments to meet everyone’s expectations effectively.

研究開発部門

国際文化学にかかわる研究開発、共同研究プロジェクト等の推進に関する業務、ならびに研究プロジェクトの研究成果の発信のための大型シンポジウムの企画・開催に関する業務を行います。
 
 

連携事業部門

各種連携協力活動の企画、ならびに自治体および地域団体、外部機関との連携の維持に関する業務を行います。
 
 

国際交流部門

外国の研究機関との連携に伴う研究者の招聘と派遣、協定校からの招聘教員の講演会・特別講義などの企画と開催、外国人研究者の受け入れに関する業務を行います。
 
 

移民研究部門

日本学術振興会研究拠点形成事業（A.先端拠点形成型）「日欧亜. におけるコミュニティの再生を目指す移住・多文化・福祉政策の研究拠点形成」の運営に関する業務、ならびに、移民をテーマとする研究プロジェクトに関するセミナー等の企画及び開催、国内外の機関との渉外に関する業務を行います。
 
 
 
 

重点研究部門

国際文化学に関わる研究プロジェクトのうち、重点的な研究プロジェクトの推進に関する業務を行います。
 

Research and Development Division

This division focuses on the promotion of research development for intercultural studies and joint research projects as well as duties related to the planning and hosting of large symposia at which research project results are announced.
 
 

Inter-Organizational Networking Division

This division performs tasks related to various collaborative activities and tasks that involve maintaining collaboration between government and regional organizations and external organizations.
 

International Exchange Division

This division focuses on sending and inviting scholars, while collaborating with overseas research institutions, planning and hosting lectures and special courses led by invited scholars from partner universities, and hosting foreign researchers.
 

Migration Research Division

This division performs duties related to the operation of the Core-to-Core Program （A: Advanced Research Network）of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, "Research on the Public Policies on Migration, Multiculturalization and Welfare for the Regeneration of Communities in European, Asian, and Japanese Societies" as well as arrangements for planning and hosting seminars about migration research, collaborations with related research institutions both within and outside Japan. 
 
 

Priority Research Division

This division focuses on the promotion of research projects related to intercultural studies, with special priority given to those projects.
